MailGuard / Setup
Set up MailGuard for Gmail
This guide covers personal Gmail. Installation becomes available after Google distribution approval and approval of your MailGuard account.
Before you start
Give the operator the primary Gmail address you want to use and read the approved privacy policy and service terms before enrollment. Your account must be approved in MailGuard.
Use the verified installation link supplied by the operator once available. Do not request a Google Cloud project role to use MailGuard. This draft contains no working public installation link.
Install and authorize
- Install MailGuard from its verified Marketplace listing when available.
- Read the Google permission screen and authorize the add-on with the approved Gmail account.
- Open a message, then open MailGuard from the Gmail side panel.
Report the selected message
- Choose Report to MailGuard. This sends that message’s original, headers and attachments to the SecOpsLife security team.
- Wait for the result and keep the report reference shown in the add-on.
- Watch for the analyst’s verdict. The original Gmail message stays in your mailbox.
What the Google permissions mean
Sign-in permissions verify your Google account identity and email address. Gmail add-on permissions let MailGuard run and read the selected message when you act on it.
The current permission set does not include sending mail from your Gmail account, scanning the entire Inbox, moving messages to Spam, or deleting messages. Google can ask for authorization again after revocation or a permission change.
If something gets in the way
Access is not active: make sure the selected Gmail account is the approved account, then contact support. An unused initial approval expires after 48 hours; the operator can reissue it.
No confirmation email: keep the report reference and check Spam. Queued or accepted means the email was submitted, not that delivery is proven. Do not create repeated reports to force delivery.
If Retry this report appears, use it for the same reporting attempt. If the report already has a reference and no retry is offered, contact support with that reference.
Stop using MailGuard
You can uninstall the add-on and revoke its Google authorization. You can also ask the operator to revoke your MailGuard access.
Removing access stops future reports; it does not automatically erase evidence already submitted. Data-retention and deletion arrangements must be finalized before external enrollment.
